NEW BLOOD NEEDED IN THE WEST
• 5th Feb 2008
• Ryan Moses - Young Unionist calls for more young members to become involved in local politics
Being one of the few members from the constituencies west of the Bann, or the "Forgotten West", in attendance at the annual general meeting of the Young Unionists recently, I feel we have come to a stage where a lack of "young blood" will be detrimental to progress.

In the constituencies of Fermanagh and South Tyrone, Mid-Ulster and my own West Tyrone, we are scarce of elected representatives at the lower end of the age scale.
I appreciate that with age comes experience and our public representatives who have previously served as councillors, MLAs and MPs and those currently in office, hold a vast amount of knowledge that can be shared with up-and-coming candidates.
Although young candidates in local government are important, even more important are young voters, and I echo the concerns from Ulster Unionist MLA Tom Elliott, and encourage all those who are or will soon be eligible to vote to ensure that they are registered.
The Young Unionists continue to work closely with its members, associates, parent party and the wider community to ensure a better future.
As secretary of the Mid-Ulster and West Tyrone branch of the Young Unionists and a constituent of West Tyrone, I would ask that anyone who thinks I could be of any help to contact me.
Ryan Moses,
Secretary Mid-Ulster and West Tyrone Young Unionists
