| ROAD TO DAMASCUS CONVERSION |

| • Has Peter Robinson finally learned his lesson |
I nearly choked on my morning cup of tea this morning when I read the following comment in today’s Newsletter from First Minister Peter Robinson ‘Mr Allister we will be at the negotiating table to uphold the Unionist case rather than whining from the sideline’ – I thought for a moment that there was something in my tea but no there it was in black and white. Is this the same DUP who stood on the sidelines and whined when the Ulster Unionists were carrying the burden of negotiating the Good Friday Agreement? I also noted in the ‘Your Views’ comment that Richard stated ‘Lord Carson agreed to cede Monaghan, Donegal and Cavan – he had to for the greater good – the DUP have had to yield at times to for the greater good’. How come we now have this Road to Damascus conversion by the DUP? Anything that was done by the Ulster Unionist Party ‘for the greater good’ was dismissed by the DUP as ‘surrender’. The greater good was achieved by the hard work of the Ulster Unionist Party when the DUP stood yelling from the corners. Where would we be today if for the ‘greater good’ the NI Executive headed by Brian Faulkner and Gerry Fitt had been allowed to succeed?
