The recent murder of Francis O’Neill in the Brookvale area of Omagh has been condemned by local UUP Councillor Ross Hussey. I have spoken to several people in the Omagh area who knew Mr O’Neill and they have described him as ‘one of nature’s gentlemen’. From all reports he would have been an inoffensive man who went about his life causing no harm to anyone. I understand he was a former nurse in the Tyrone and Fermanagh where my late father was also a nurse and that he would have been of that same generation of Male Nurses. I pass on my deepest sympathies to the O’Neill family circle and I am appalled to think that the three youths who I believe are aged 15 16 and 18 are in any way involved in the murder of this Omagh pensioner. Naturally this type of event will cause concern to many of the elderly residents of Omagh and I would appeal to the local PSNI to ensure that there are increased foot patrols in all areas of Omagh so that a high level of visible local policing can be seen to reduce the fears of the local elderly residents.
