DID THE HEALTH COMMITTEE GET LOST?
• 16th Jun 2008
• POOR ATTENDANCE IN OMAGH

The recent visit by the Health Committee of the Northern Ireland Assembly to Omagh was disappointing to say the least commented Omagh Councillor Ross Hussey following the meeting which was held on Thursday 5th June.  Only 5 committee members managed the arduous journey to Omagh - 3 of them are already West Tyrone MLA’s - Kieran Deeny, Tom Buchanan and Claire McGill, the other 2 present were John McCallister and Tommy Gallagher/

’I hope that those who could not be bothered to come to Omagh have the foresight to ensure that they read all the documents and presentations that were made both by the members of Omagh District Council that were in attendance - Councillors Ross Hussey and Bert Wilson UUP, Councillor Charlie Chittick DUP. Councillors Johnny McLaughlin and Paddy McGowan MBE Indepndents, Councillors Dr Jo Deehan and Seamus Shields SDLP and Councillors Anne Marie Fitzgerald, Sharon O’Brien and the Council Chairman Councillor Martin McColgan SF.  I would have expected a far better attendance of MLAs as such an important meeting for the people of Omagh and I congratulate the Steering Group of the Hospital Campaign for continuing with their presentation to the Assembly Group despite the poor turn out.  Hopefully Tyrone is not forgotten when the matter is again debated at the full Committee Meeting in Stormont’
