Derg Area Ulster Unionist Councillor, Derek Hussey, has hit out at the lack of attention by the Police to real issues of anti-social behaviour within the Castlederg area.
Mr Hussey said "Police have long been made aware of those areas within Castlederg where anti-social behaviour originates. For too long the entire community know that drinking and worse is taking place at our Castle site and at Mitchell Park in the town. These issues have been reported to our local police on numerous occasions but to-date it would appear that nothing is being done in this regard.
"On Saturday I was contacted by a very irate Manager of Churchtown Football Club, Michael Connolly, recounting his experiences at Mitchell Park on the Friday evening when he was in the area checking that all was well at the pitch for his teams games the next day, Saturday. Mr Connolly was verbally abused by a group of up to three dozen young adults who were drinking (and worse) at these pitches.
"Similar accounts are regular in regard to the Castle Site in Castlederg as to this totally unacceptable behaviour going on within our town."
Mr Hussey concluded by saying, "Whilst I fully realise the restrictions of resource that our local Police Service have to operate in, it surely is incumbent on our local Justice System to ensure that local people and local facilities are protected from the type of social and physical damage that is currently ongoing within our community." |
